Your benefits

A Vertical platform lift is a major purchase – and prices between providers often differ by several thousand euros. Comparing therefore pays off from the start: while a seat lift for a straight staircase including installation is usually available from around €3,500, custom-made solutions for curved or multi-flight staircases often cost between €9,000 and €15,000. If you obtain several quotes in your region, you can quickly save a four-figure sum.

Buying a Vertical platform lift is a major investment – which is why an independent price comparison pays off. With just one enquiry you receive non-binding offers from certified dealers in your region. That lets you compare models, services and prices at your leisure and choose the offer that best fits your living situation and budget.

The offer comparison is independent and free of charge. On request, we will also tell you about the funding available – such as the long-term care fund grant of up to €4,180 per person or the KfW funding for barrier-reducing measures. That way you know early on which financial support is available and what costs remain once funding is deducted.

FAQ

  • A Vertical platform lift usually costs around €6,000 to €25,000, depending on lifting height, platform size, load capacity, location and safety equipment. For a few steps at the front door, simple systems are often cheaper than solutions with greater lifting height, railings or door systems. Outdoor models need weather-resistant components and a load-bearing, frost-proof base with drainage; that adds to the cost. A realistic price therefore requires an on-site measurement.

  • From care level 1, the long-term care fund can pay up to €4,180 per person in need of care if the Vertical platform lift makes home care easier or enables more independence. If several eligible people live together, up to €16,720 per measure is possible. In addition, the KfW grant 455-B for barrier reduction has been available again since 2026: for individual measures up to 10% of the eligible costs, maximum €2,500. Alternatively or additionally, the KfW loan 159 of up to €50,000 per residential unit is available. Important: applications must be submitted before signing the contract and before installation.

  • A Vertical platform lift is a vertically travelling lifting platform. It bridges individual steps, landings or height differences without following a staircase on a rail. Users move onto the platform in a wheelchair, with a rollator or on foot and operate the lift by holding down a button. Access ramps, flaps or doors secure the platform during travel. For many entrance areas this is simpler than a long ramp, which would take up a great deal of space because of the required gradient.

  • Vertical platform lifts are often used for short to medium height differences, for example at the front door, on a terrace or between two levels. Many systems cover lifting heights of up to around 3 metres. The greater the lifting height, the more important fall protection, railings, door interlocks and stable guidance become. For a few steps a compact model is often sufficient; for several metres of lifting height a vertical lift or home lift can be the better solution.

  • Many Vertical platform lifts are designed for around 300 kg, some models for 350 kg or more. What matters is not just body weight but the total weight of user, wheelchair, accessories and any accompanying person. Electric wheelchairs are considerably heavier than manual ones. Load capacity and platform dimensions should therefore always be planned together so the system can be used safely and comfortably every day.

  • You need the platform area, safe access and enough manoeuvring space in front of and behind the lift. For wheelchair-accessible planning, 90 cm clear passage width and a 150 x 150 cm manoeuvring area are often used as DIN-oriented target values. In existing buildings it is not always possible to achieve the ideal layout; what matters then is a safe, practical solution. The advantage over a platform lift on the staircase: the stairs remain clear.

  • Yes, Vertical platform lifts are very often used outdoors, especially at the front door, on terraces or at cellar entrances. Corrosion-protected materials, slip-resistant platforms, weatherproof controls, a load-bearing foundation and drainage are important so that no water or ice collects in the travel area. Depending on the installation situation, railings, doors, weather protection or building-law approvals may also be necessary.

  • Typical safety equipment includes hold-to-run control, emergency stop, underrun protection, obstacle sensors, access flaps or doors to prevent rolling off, and emergency lowering in the event of a power cut. Vertical platform lifts for people with reduced mobility are covered by a standardised technical framework; EN 81-41 describes, among other things, safety requirements for such systems up to 0.15 m/s. Even so, professional planning suited to the location is what matters most.

  • You give the lifting height, location, wheelchair type, intended use and any structural particulars. Specialist companies from your region then check whether a Vertical platform lift, a ramp, a platform lift or a vertical lift fits better. For the binding quote, dimensions, subsurface, power connection, drainage and safety features are examined. Advice is free and without obligation; it should also cover funding options and follow-up costs.

  • Running costs arise for electricity, maintenance and possible wear parts. Everyday energy demand is usually manageable, because the lift only needs noticeable power while moving. More important is regular maintenance, especially for outdoor systems exposed to moisture, frost and dirt. In the quote, look out for maintenance intervals, fault service, warranty, spare-parts supply and the cost of later dismantling.
