Standing Stairlifts: Compare prices & costs – Used, New, Rent

Stand lifts are a cross between a seat lift and a platform lift. They have a small platform that takes up little space but provides a safe standing surface. A stand-up lift takes up less space than other stair lifts. It is usually cheaper than a platform lift, but just as safe. Particularly suitable is the stand-up lift for people who, due to their physical limitations can only sit poorly, or stand up.

In addition to the classic stairlift forms of the seat and platform lift, there are standing lifts. They are a cross between both variants. Technically, the standing lift corresponds most closely to the Stairlift. However, instead of a seat, it provides a small platform on which to stand. The standing lift is suitable for people who have mobility limitations, but have no problems standing.

Prices and costs

A standing lift allows older people to experience a new way of life. The initial cost depends on many different factors, so depending on the equipment and customization, the lift can be much cheaper or more expensive than previously thought.

Factors affecting price

The cost of a stand-up lift is made up of many different factors. Here it depends among other things on which model one decides, which drive is needed and which additional equipment the lift should have. Furthermore, the price is also calculated according to the height to be overcome and the load capacity. In addition, the lift must be adapted to the structural and personal situation of the customer. Basically, therefore, a standing lift is in most cases a custom-made product. So, in summary, the following factors further drive up the overall price:

No.
Cost factors
1.Complexity and angle of inclination of the stairs
2.Number of steps
3.Effort during installation
4.Height to overcome
5.Additional equipment and optics
6.Weather resistance for outdoor installation
7.Load-bearing capacity and load-bearing capacity
8.Drive speed
9.Number of stops
10.Type of drive (electric motor, traction drive, rack and pinion drive / gear drive)

The above factors thus ensure that manufacturers generally can not give a blanket price information. At the current time, the average price range for a stand-up lift over one floor is around 5,000 to 10,000 €. Used models are already available for less than 3,000 €, but it is important to pay close attention to whether the model is suitable at all. When buying a new standing lift, a manufacturer can only provide a cost estimate after an on-site inspection. In addition, you should consider in advance whether the stand-up lift must also have special or adapted equipment. In this way, the manufacturer can prepare an offer perfectly tailored to your needs.

Acquisition costs

A standing lift allows barrier-free access often without extensive reconstruction of the living environment. It can be installed within a very short time and is cheaper to purchase than conventional elevators. When buying a stand-up lift, you should expect to pay at least 5,000 €. These prices are usual in the market and are not related to a single manufacturer. In the case of a single-family house with 1 floor and larger conversion costs, prices of up to 10,000 € can quickly arise. If the stand-up lift is installed for a wheelchair user, up to 4,000 € subsidy can be applied for and claimed from the care insurance, if a corresponding care degree is available.

Stairlift for standing and sittingStairlift for standing and sitting

The price of a stair lift depends on various factors such as load capacity, travel speed, number of stopping points, height, type of drive, model and appearance. Stand-up lifts for outdoor use are understandably more expensive than those for indoor use. The real purchase costs can be determined very accurately by obtaining several cost estimates from different lift manufacturers -and service providers.

An incalculable size remains however the costs of the necessary rebuilding measures at the single family house. If larger excavations are necessary at the single-family dwelling, additional costs can develop. Therefore, before buying a stand-up lift, find out about “all” the costs involved and financial subsidies. In addition to the care cost subsidy for measures to improve the individual living environment, the state-subsidized KfW Bank promotes measures to reduce barriers with favorable loans of up to 50,000 €.

Prices and customization options vary widely from manufacturer to manufacturer. Flat price quotations such as a price per 1 meter height or per stair step do not exist. In general, you can say that the more steps are overcome and the more weight it must transport, the more expensive it is. For each additional meter, you should expect to pay at least 2,000 € more, not including conversion costs. A stand-up lift that is attached to the outside staircase, has a rail length of around 2 meters, has 2 stopping points, moves via a hydraulic drive and can be used by a wheelchair user should cost at least 8,000 € with installation. The purchase is cost-intensive and should be carefully planned. With a price comparison over welcher-Stehlift.de much money can be saved. You will receive up to three free and non-binding offers from stand-up lift providers from your region, which you can compare at your leisure and without risk.

Costs for maintenance and servicing

Stand-up lifts are low-emission, durable, lightweight and space-saving. A stand-up lift only needs to have its oil and seals changed every 5 years. The material required for this is freely available and costs around 100 €. For the professional implementation of the oil -and seal change, one should expect costs of about 500 €. The cost of labor for maintenance is about 1,000 €. As a rule, a partial or full maintenance contract is concluded with the lift manufacturer from whom the lift is purchased to cover maintenance for a period of five or ten years. The costs for maintenance, inspection, cleaning, lubrication, adjustment work and the replacement of wear parts are then usually regulated on a flat-rate basis.

Energy costs

The energy costs for a stand-up lift are made up of consumption during travel and standby times. For a stand-up lift in a single-family house with 1,500 trips per year, i.e. approximately 4 trips per day, one should expect energy costs of 200 kWh standby power and 100 kWh travel power. At an electricity price of 0.26 €/kWh, this results in annual costs of approx. 78 €. Platform lifts in single-family homes stand still 99% of the time.

The energy costs therefore depend primarily on how much the elevator is used, whether the drive installed is suitable for the particular usage situation and what height the stand-up lift has to climb. As a rule, more than 50% of the power consumption of stand-up lifts is consumed in standby (idle) mode. To save energy costs, you should make sure when buying that LED lamps are installed instead of halogen or incandescent lamps and that a timer function exists for lighting and electronics.

Rent or pay in installments

Many manufacturers also offer the possibility to rent the stand-up lift or to pay it off monthly by installments. Here it is advisable to compare the prices of the various providers in detail and in peace with each other – this saves money. Furthermore, it can’t hurt to talk to your bank advisor about a financing model. In some cases, a bank loan may have lower interest rates than a loan through the respective lift manufacturer. In addition, an on-site inspection and estimate should be non-binding and free of charge.

Stair lifts vs. standing lifts

Typically, sit lifts and platform lifts are thought of as classic stair lifts. The sit lift is primarily designed for people who have limited mobility but do not require a wheelchair. During the ride, you sit on a comfortable seat. The rail is usually attached directly to the steps of the stairs. Seat lifts are available for straight and curved stairs, and for indoor and outdoor use. Platform lifts are preferred by wheelchair users. They have a large platform that can be accessed with a wheelchair. This eliminates the need for awkward transfers.

Standing lifts are a cross between a seat lift and a platform lift. They are more compact than platform lifts and are similar in design to a seat lift. However, instead of a seat, a standing platform is mounted. It is significantly smaller than the platform of a platform lift. As with the other forms of stairlift, transportation takes place along the stairs. To ensure that this is done without risk, there are various safety mechanisms: a bracket, an arm support and often a belt. Upright stairlifts are much more space-saving than other stairlifts and can therefore be used in very narrow stairwells, or on stairs that have very tight curves.

Advantages and disadvantages of standing lifts

Upright lifts are suitable for people who have limited mobility but are not dependent on a wheelchair. In addition, users should be able to stand sufficiently safely. The standing lift supports the user in this by means of various safety systems. The stand-up lift is particularly relevant for people who have difficulty sitting or standing up again. This is the case, for example, with people who have a stiff knee joint. Also people with weak circulation, may find the standing lift more comfortable compared to the sitting lift.

The standing lift takes up very little space. It can therefore be installed on very narrow or curved stairs. The stairs can usually be used parallel to walking. When not in use, the stand-up lift can be folded almost completely. Compared to a platform lift, the costs of the stand-up lift are significantly lower. They are roughly at the level of a seat lift, starting at about 4,000 € for a stair lift on a straight staircase. The disadvantage is the lower comfort of the stand-up lift. Many people find the ride with a seat lift more pleasant.

Mode of operation of standing lifts

One or more transport rails are mounted on the steps of the stairs. The platform of the stand-up lift travels on this rail along the course of the stairs. The control is usually done directly by the user, for example, via a kind of joystick in the armrest. In addition, most models have a remote control, or call buttons to fetch and send the stairlift. The platform of the stairlift is designed to be non-slip, providing a secure grip.

Stehlifts Beispiele

Sensors on the stairlift monitor the ride fully automatically. If an obstacle is detected in the course of the stairs, the ride stops. The stairlift’s electric drive is powered by batteries during the ride, which are automatically recharged at the end points. Stair lifts can be installed on straight stairs as well as on curved stairs. If necessary, such a stair lift can also cover several floors. If there are doors in the rail area, the rails of the lift can be made foldable.

Costs of a stairlift

The cost of a stair lift varies greatly from person to person. As a rule, they are unique or custom-made. Therefore, blanket price information is usually impossible. However, it can be said that stairlifts for straight stairs are significantly cheaper than those for curved stairs. This is related to the rails. For curved staircases, these often have to be custom made or at least customized.

Stairlifts for curved stairs are therefore at least 50 percent more expensive than stairlifts for straight stairs. Upright lifts are comparable in price to seat lifts. Prices therefore start at around 4,000 € for a simple model on a short and straight staircase. Depending on the structural situation of the staircase and the individually required equipment, however, the costs can easily triple. As a rule, however, standing lifts are still significantly cheaper than platform lifts. Their prices only start at a good 8,000 €.

Save costs when buying

Stairlifts for straight stairs can be acquired used or rented. This can save up to 50 percent of the costs incurred. Since stairlifts are very durable, there is no loss of quality when buying used. A short-term alternative is renting. It is particularly suitable if it is clear that the stairlift will only be needed for a limited period of time. In the case of curved staircases, the options of buying used or renting are usually not offered. The costs of the individual adaptation are the reason for this.
