ThyssenKrupp stairlifts – Prices, costs and experience with Lifts from ThyssenKrupp

Thyssenkrupp Home Solutions, also known as ThyssenKrupp, ThyssenKrupp Access Solutions and sometimes simply TKA in some countries, is a business unit of Thyssenkrupp Elevator AG that manufactures home elevators, stair elevators and wheelchair elevators for private homes, public buildings and other applications..

A major supplier of stair lifts in Germany is ThyssenKrupp. In addition to platform elevators and private elevators, stair elevators are the mainstay of the Neuss-based company, whose roots go back to 1865.

ThyssenKrupp offers the Flow II, a special lift for curved stairs, the Levant Outdoor, a special lift for outdoor use, and the “Levant” model series, three stairlifts for straight stairs indoors.

Stairlifts must last for years or decades while always functioning without problems. A solid construction and high-quality materials are basic requirements to be able to keep this promise. As a well-known supplier, ThyssenKrupp sells stairlifts in various designs for straight and curved staircases indoors and outdoors.

Who is the company ThyssenKrupp?

The history of ThyssenKrupp dates back to 1865. At that time, the company Stahlbau Eggers was founded in Hamburg. In the 1955s, this company joined Rheinstahl AG. Rheinstahl AG later became ThyssenKrupp AG, which in turn founded the subsidiary ThyssenKrupp Treppenlifte GmbH. In 2017, this division was then renamed Thyssenkrupp Home Solutions. Thyssenkrupp Home Solutions focuses on products that enable people to remain safe and mobile in their own homes.

For this purpose, in addition to stairlifts, platform lifts and private elevators are offered. Specialists of the enterprise accompany each buyer from the first consultation, over a precise measurement up to the assembly and the following service of a stair lift. All service employees are tested and certified by TÜV Rheinland.

Of course, the stairlifts themselves also have necessary safety certifications. Since each stairlift is unique, it is difficult to give all-inclusive prices of ThyssenKrupp stairlifts. Roughly, we can say that the price level in the middle range of stairlifts from ThyssenKrupp starts at a good 6,000 €.

We explain below the individual model series and go into more detail about their special features. In summary, ThyssenKrupp has high-quality lift solutions for all requirements and structural conditions in the range.

Stairlift Levant series from ThyssenKrupp

The Levant stairlift series from ThyssenKrupp was specially designed for straight stairs. A total of three model types are offered: Levant Classic, Levant Comfort and Levant Comfort Plus. The Levant Classic model is the entry-level model. It was developed in collaboration with occupational therapists and has won several design awards. The Levant Classic stairlift can be fully assembled in around half a day. The maximum load capacity is 138 KG. It is operated via a joystick in the armrest.

The Levant Classic has a remote control to call or send the stairlift. The track is made of anodized aluminum. If desired, it can fold away automatically to free up space when it is needed. It is driven by a toothed wheel and rack. When not in use, the seat of the stairlift can be folded to save space.

Levant Comfort stairlift offers a little extra comfort to demanding customers. For this purpose, the Levant Comfort model has the seat of the Flow II model. In addition, the one-hand operation is particularly smooth and the stairlift is even easier to fold. The maximum load capacity of this model is 125 kg. The Levant ComfortPlus stairlift belongs to the premium class. This model combines all the advantages of the Levant series and has an increased load capacity of 146 kg.

Levant Outdoor for outdoor use

ThyssenKrupp also offers the Levant stairlift in a special version for outdoor use. Thanks to the selection of special and particularly resistant materials, this stairlift is especially durable and resilient. The seat is water-repellent and all the technology is housed in a waterproof casing. When not in use, the Levant Outdoor can be protected from the elements by means of a waterproof cover.

The Levant Outdoor has a maximum load capacity of 125 kg. The technical equipment is essentially the same as for other stairlifts in the Levant series for indoor use. Outdoor stairlifts are available for straight and curved stairs. They operate similarly to indoor stairlifts, but have weather-resistant features to allow the unit to withstand harsh temperatures and weather conditions.

Flow II stair lift for curved stairs

For curved staircases indoors, ThyssenKrupp has the Flow II stairlift in its range. The Flow II has a maximum load capacity of 125 kg. It is operated via a joystick or two radio external command transmitters for fetch and send. The drive system consists of a gear and drive rod.

The track consists of 80 mm diameter powder-coated tubular steel profile. The single-tube system is installed with support feet on the steps. The seat of the Flow II can be rotated up to 90°, making it easier to get on and off the stairs. The seat rail of the stairlift is optionally available in any RAL color. The color of the seat cushion can also be selected in different shades, so that the Flow II can be adapted to the living environment.

Platform lifts from ThyssenKrupp

ThyssenKrupp offers three different platform lifts specifically for wheelchair users. The BLM model is a lift for small height differences of just a few steps up to a maximum of 1 meter. For longer stairs, the platform lift models RPsp as well as T80 (also for long travel distances) and Supra (also for very narrow stairs) are suitable.

The latter are designed for curved stairs, while the RPsp model is for straight stairs. All platform lifts can be installed both indoors and outdoors. The maximum load capacity is 325 kg (RPsp), 300 kg (T80 and Supra) and 225 kg (BLM). The platforms are each available in different sizes.

History of thyssenkrupp Home Solutions

The history of ThyssenKrupp Home Solutions began in 1987 when Thyssen acquired the Dutch stairlift manufacturer “De Reus”. In 1999, ThyssenKrupp Access opened a subsidiary in the United States. In 2005, ThyssenKrupp Access merged with Ceteco, an Italian manufacturer of wheelchair lifts and stairlifts based in Pisa. This company was called ThyssenKrupp Ceteco until it was renamed ThyssenKrupp S.r.l. in 2011. In 2007, ThyssenKrupp Home Solutions opened a subsidiary in China to manufacture and distribute residential elevators in China and the Asia-Pacific region.

In 2011, ThyssenKrupp Home Solutions launched the state-of-the-art HE 6 and HE 7 Homelift series in Europe. These new home lifts have become the new benchmark in home lifts due to their high-quality materials, individual design and drive technology. In the same year, the company also launched the StairWalker, a revolutionary and unique technical aid that helps people climb stairs. In 2017, the ThyssenKrupp Access Solutions division was renamed thyssenkrupp Home Solutions as part of a restructuring. The product portfolio includes passenger boarding bridges, stair lifts, StairWalker, home lifts and service lifts for wind turbines.

Stairlift models at a glance

Stair lifts are commonly used in private homes with straight stairs. They have a rail that is attached to the steps of the staircase. Straight rail stairlifts can usually be installed within a few days of ordering.

Modern stairlifts come with a variety of features such as adjustable seat height, battery disconnect switch, folding rail, key switch, folding step, speed limiter and safety belt. Curved stair lifts are built to follow the shape of a staircase (curved stair). On stairs with flat landings in between, they eliminate the need for multiple straight stairlifts by providing a continuous ride along the entire length of the staircase. Because the rail is specifically designed to fit the staircase, stairlifts with curved rails are more expensive than lifts for straight stairs. A curved rail lift usually requires careful measurement, design and fabrication. The installation process usually takes longer than a straight stair lift.

Wheelchair/platform lift models at a glance

Platform elevators, due to the fact that they transport a wheelchair, are usually built much heavier than a residential stair lift. Most platform stairlifts are used in buildings with public access and/or inside and outside of private homes.

The platform is large enough to accommodate a wheelchair and its user. The lift can have edge flaps that fold down and act as ramps to compensate for gaps to the floor. These flaps also prevent the wheelchair from going over the edge of the platform.

The rails are designed so that you can carry the load. The drive system is usually housed in a tubular profile rail. Some models have steel cables inside the tube, others have chains. Many wheelchair platform stairlifts are custom built to order. Others are assembled to a standard modular system.

    Dear Sir or Madam,

I have taken over a stair lift from the previous owner of our house. I would like to sell it, but I wanted to make sure that it works properly. Since this is not the case, I would like to have an instruction manual with troubleshooting. Can I find one from you anywhere on the internet? I have a Levant series lift. It initially let me move it after some loading time. In the meantime this is no longer the case. Only a beeping signal sounds when the “joystick” or the remote control is pressed. After that a beep sounds in short intervals if it is not switched off.

I have a stair lift Flow 2 from the company ThyssenKrupp Encasa, from the basement to the 1st floor. Since the two users (my husband and my mother) have passed away, I no longer need the lift. To whom can I sell the lift (possibly only the seat and the drive, if the rails do not fit)?

I would be grateful for a short information.

    With kind regards

Who can write me experience values with the Thyssenkrupp stairlift. I plan to buy one, but I would like to know if you are satisfied with the customer service and everything that has to do with the company. Were you satisfied with the installation? Does the customer service come right away when you need it and you don’t have to wait long. Are they really professionals who know their craft … etc.

We have a Thyssenkrupp Flow and the part caused trouble from the start, even “spinning” here and there in the middle of operation, so that my mother would have had to “get out” once in the middle of the stairs if I hadn’t been able to reset the unit by hand. The sluggish service replaced the electronics, but the device is almost unusable. Clear purchase warning!

My mother has had a stairlift for years with a corresponding service maintenance contract. Now she is actually once stuck because the telephone information was incorrect after a request because of a warning tone. 4 phone calls and 4 emails: result the following day received an appointment for in five days. My mother is no longer able to climb stairs and is dependent on the elevator. Customer service permanently unfriendly and impertinent. When I searched for help on my own, it turned out that 5 km away from my mother is a customer service of Thyssen Krupp with day and night emergency service. This was not informed! Conclusion: Friendly and obliging up to the conclusion of the contract, but after that I would definitely advise against Thyssen Krupp. No service and unfriendly!
