Vertical stairlifts differ from normal stairlifts by the locomotion in the vertical. Vertical stairlifts are therefore not mounted on the stairs, but next to them. They come in different designs. The simplest forms are a lifting platform, a handicap lift or a lifting platform. The most luxurious version of the vertical stair elevator is the personal elevator.

Differences stair lift and vertical stair lift

Stair lift is usually referred to devices that transport a person along the stairs. Typical forms include seat lifts and platform lifts. The principle of operation is the same. A rail is mounted on the steps of the staircase. On this rail, a seat or platform moves up and down. This form of stair lift has the advantage that it does not require a floor space away from the stairs. On the other hand, mounting on the steps of the stairs limits their usability.

A vertical stairlift ignores the course of the stairs. In this case, the stair lift is not mounted on the stairs, but next to them. Theoretically, such a vertical stairlift can also be mounted completely independently of a staircase. The vertical stairlift needs a footprint, but this can be chosen relatively variable. The staircase remains fully usable and is not affected by the installation of a vertical stairlift.

Lifting platforms, lifting platforms and lifting platforms

The simplest forms of vertical stairlift are lifting platforms, lifting platforms or lifting platforms. Their principle is the same in each case, but there are differences in the equipment. This form of stairlift is suitable for overcoming small differences in height. Most models can be used for stairs with a total height of about 1.5 meters. The legal requirements and the subsequent service effort are also lower than for a real lift. Nevertheless, higher distances can be covered with such a vertical stair lift. A vertical elevator is therefore also suitable for providing access to several floors. Thanks to a modular design, most models can be easily adapted to the living environment. However, its use is not limited to the domestic environment. Elevators are also used to remodel public buildings, companies or clinics to make them barrier-free.

Application areas

Vertical stair lifts can be used both indoors and outdoors. Which variant comes into question is influenced by the overall structural situation and the height to be overcome. Most vertical elevators have a very high load-bearing capacity. Therefore, they can be used with a wheelchair without any problems. They can also carry loads such as a stroller. Most suppliers offer fold-out seats for their stairlifts, but alternatively, of course, you can spend the ride standing up.

Prices and costs

Vertical stairlifts tend to be more expensive than seat lifts. While seat lifts in simple form and for straight stairs are already available for under 4,000 €, lifting platforms, lifting platforms or lifting platforms cost at least close to 10,000 €. To be fair, however, lifting platforms, lifting platforms or lifting platforms should most likely be compared with a platform lift. In doing so, you will find that they are at a similar price level. Elevators are once again significantly more expensive.

The exact price depends on individual requirements. Vertical lifts are usually always custom made, which can have extreme differences in price. Used personal elevators are therefore also traded rather rarely. Worth considering, however, is the purchase of a used lifting platform, lift or lift. They are usually significantly cheaper and can be realized without much adaptation or installation effort. Thus one can save up to 50 per cent.
